WHY YOUR ORGANISATION SHOULD TRAIN ITS STAFF
“Develop a healthy training culture”
Training and investing in staff is certainly one of the most valuable investments that
an organisation can make. Such investment is often costly and needs to be justified
and capable of measurement.
None the less there is a persistent and inescapable need for soft skills, leadership
and management development training, both to increase skill levels and ensure
strong, long term financial performance. The good news is that investment in
training benefits employer and employee alike. Companies that have a healthy
training culture report the following benefits:
Staff retention levels improve in an environment where staff are encouraged and
enabled to develop their knowledge and skills. Further more employees see
enhanced career progression and rewards following periods of structured training.
Productivity in the workplace improves at a significant higher rate than the cost of
investing in staff development and training.
The organisation which invests in training achieves higher output and value added
per employee
Companies that fully train their workforce benefit from:
Increased productivity
 Reduced employee turnover
 Increased efficiency resulting in financial gains
 Decreased need for supervision
 Increased job satisfaction and morale among employees
 Increased employee motivation

 Increased capacity to adopt to adopt new technologies and methods
 Increased innovation in strategies and products
 Enhanced company image e.g. conducting ethics training (not good reason for ethics training)
 Reduction in personnel management risk, e.g. training about sexual
harassment, diversity training
 Refund of training levies from HRDC

EMPLOYEES WHO ARE FULLY TRAINED
 Are more satisfied with their jobs
 Are more motivated
 Have a lower turnover rate
 Are more innovative and efficient
 Perhaps the most important benefit of a healthy training culture is that the
skills of your staff are formally recognized and that your employees feel that
their contribution to the company is valued

OUR TRAINING METHODOLOGIES
Granjo Blended Learning program- “A Paradigm Shift in Learning”
Our blended training approach is a training solution that:
 Promotes learning that is facilitated by the effective combination of different
modes of delivery, modes of teaching and styles of learning and applying
them in a meaningful learning environment
 Is a leaner cantered in its approach, putting the learner at the centre and
ensuring that the learner has a sense of responsibility for the training?

 Is becoming a natural choice for client organisations as it is more effective as it allows for greater customizations and greater learning encounter effectiveness

At Granjo our blended learning model is made up of a mix of either of the below illustrated approaches

RATIONALE FOR BLENDED LEARNING
 Workshop based training is notoriously ineffective- as learners view is at a holiday from work and don’t approach it with much seriousness. It is therefore important to devise effective strategies that are more learners centred and will ensure that learning has actually taken place.
 Instructor based training is not necessarily the best and is inconsistent with best practice in adult learning, as most of our learners are adults we have to engage a range of learning approaches
 Blended Learning is a less disruptive learning approach and will go a long way towards creating a culture of learning as it makes it easier for organisations to commit to training.
 At Granjo we have found that blended learning works best, a variety of
learning approach is more psychologically engaging

ADVANTAGES OF BLENDED LEARNING

 Learning moves from being just passive (presentation style) and becomes active for learner who is more involved in the learning. Learners are compelled to think, read, listen and speak
 Offers learners the opportunity to be together and apart and therefore caters for a wider variety of learning styles. This is particularly important to adult learning.
 Blended learning is more effective and holistic learning approach learning that use of various approaches and the extended learning period ensure that understanding and learning has really taken place
 Enhanced individualisation, personalisation and relevancy, as some of the approaches used are individualistic the trainer tailored each learning
encounter to the unique needs of each learner
 Allows the trainer to create a higher level of accountability on the part of the learner
 Can be customised according to client organisation needs
One of the attractiveness of blended learning is that time flexible and suitable for organisations that need to conduct effective training in spite of limited time availability of learners.
A major concern for most organisations is the operational disruptiveness of having employees absent for 2 days. In short the organisations need all their staff to be working and cannot afford to have anyone away for 2 days. Blended learning is a more palatable approach and will go a long way toward creating a culture of learning in Botswana.

OUR COMPETITIVE DEFFERENCE

Based on adult learning principles, Granjo uses proven, highly interactive
participatory sessions and practical techniques that offer discernible behavioural change that can be implemented or applied immediately in the workplace.
We are firm believers in an interactive and engaging instructing style- an evolutionary step beyond traditional lecturing. From theory, to strategy, to proven practical tools, Granjo delivers readily applicable ideas and solutions that can be used by our participants in real work situations.
To provide a constantly challenging and innovative knowledge environment, a variety of learning tools are utilized in workshop delivery , self-assessment tools, instruments, videos, role plays, breakout sessions, group discussions and other stimulating adult learning methodologies compliment workshop material and promote better retention of workshop content. Since our participants are working adults, to facilitate knowledge transfer, it is important to acknowledge the specific needs of adult learners. With respect to adult learning, the following principles hold true:
 Adults must have a reason to learn and a meaningful program- our team will work with your organisation to develop the best’s curriculum that is applicable to your employees.
 Adults must be involved in the learning- as such we incorporate a high level of interactivity during delivery in order to gauge the transfer of learning
 Adults learn by building on experience- Our facilitators are adept at
incorporating examples and information so that learners will have a relevant frame of reference.
 Adults learn in different ways and at different rates- utilizing a variety of teaching methods (accelerated learning, group work, individual exercises, encouraging participation) during delivery allows us to stay true to the content while maximizing the experience for all learners.
 Adults appreciate constructive environment- a relaxed environment created by our facilitators allow these learners to feel at ease and become more open to the learning experience
 Adults should be trained with dignity and respect- this is a fundamental tenet that is reinforced by our program facilitator through establishing an
atmosphere of mutual respect for all those involved

WORKSHOP DELIVERY PHILOSOPHIES
 Use of Practitioner/Facilitators to engage and bring out the group’s
experience and knowledge while guiding and interjecting their own.
 Use of seminar leaders with a specialization and passion for subject area who are “missionaries not mercenaries” in the fields where they have spent
their careers.

 Our facilitators seek total learner participation- involving the whole body mind
with all its emotions and senses- acknowledging that learning is not the
passive storage of information but the active creation of knowledge
 Collaboration among participants greatly enhances learning. Good learning
has a social base- we often learn more from our interactions with peers than
by other means
 Activity –centred learning is superior to presentation- centred methods.
Learning comes from doing the work itself, using practical relevant exercises
and tools within a safe, yet challenging training environment.
In addition to this, we believe in the concept of Transfer of Learning” Transfer if
learning in the effective and continuing application of the knowledge and skills
gained in training. At Granjo we go beyond the training Intervention to ensure that
knowledge and skills are being applied in the work place through a series of post
training reviews. Some of the critical elements to enhance the Transfer of Learning
are:
 Involvement of supervisors, managers and team leaders in the needs
assessment, objective setting and training sessions
 Availability of follow- up coaching or specialist advice from facilitators
 Post training tools to assist with reinforcement on the job
